Origin: Pacific Northwest. Northwest Coast Indians, for whom the annual salmon runs not only were the mainstay of life but constantly reconfirmed the cyclical flow of life and death, thought of salmon as people in another form. Every year the Salmon people living in their village beneath the sea, exchanged their outer human garments for those of fish to migrate upstream and become food for the Indians. Their bones floated back to sea, where they were once again transformed into living Salmon People. Each year the cycle repeated itself. The original Fishman can be seen at the museum of Anthropology at Berkeley, CA. Size 21x43x5 boxed. Irridized salmon color with dichroic and some black, blue, red with various highlights.
