This mask has its origins with the Salish tribe in the Pacific Northwest. This mask was most commonly worn as a crest by ritualists who inherited special powers and assisted at all life crises and social situations. By myth the mask was associated with earthquakes and healing. Under threat of war, the Salish gave the mask to the Kwakuitl tribe, who in turn used it in some of their ceremonies. Some original KweKwe masks can be seen at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
Everyone in earthquake territory should own this mask as it is said protect you in such situations.
This mask measures 9 inches by 15 inches on 8x8 Plexiglas stand. This mask is done blue with gold dichroic and black.
